The “Real Santa” and “The Snow Queen” at the grand department store – Miller & Rhoads – is a lovely memory for many who were fortunate enough to experience this very special time at Christmas. For more than fifty years, this beautiful tradition graced downtown Richmond, VA, delighting visitors of all ages. The “magic” of this era is commemorated in two books by former Snow Queen, Donna Strother Deekens: Christmas at Miller & Rhoads: Memoirs of a Snow Queen (Charleston, SC, The History Press,2009), and a children’s book, Santaland: A Miller & Rhoads Christmas (Charleston, SC, The History Press, 2010).
